Bitcoins, BATs, Blockchain Galactica

A recent rumination of mine was around the idea of the future of online spaces and how value will be generated, shared, and realized by the entities taking part in the grand experiment of society. Bitcoin in a fundamental sense seeks to open markets beyond government insulation and allow a free flow of value among people, at the expense of isolationist and nationalist tendencies created by government. It will be a long and difficult transition to exit government control from currency systems, and will take creation of an inclusive system that has a regulation enforcement that works to remove corruption that can be technical, politically motivated, and physically pursued by unscrupulous people. In the interim, investors from traditional money have being flooding into the bitcoin sparked cryptocurrency and blockchain market spaces, despite initially dismissing fake internet nerd money as a passing fad, similar to the previous generation of investors view of online communications and the ultimate development of the Internet as it evolved.

Moving to an open consensus cryptocurrency blockchain for our monetary system is a hallmark idea for the future of our worldwide society, but it comes down to the technology being a useful tool and transcending artificial limitations imposed by systems opposed to free society, regardless of their justifications. We are exploring integration of the BAT platform for all Coconuts.club properties and members. We have begun using the Brave browser full time as well to do our part to inspire others to adopt and help evolved these blockchain technologies.

Basic Attention Token (BAT) is a novel concept of a blockchain cryptocurrency being used to value user attention. Users that run the Brave web browser, created by Brendan Eich the creator of Javascript, Netscape, Co-Founder of Mozilla and Firefox, receive BAT for browsing BAT enabled sites and allowing ads to be shown. Basic Attention Tokens are used to obtain advertising and attention based services on the BAT platform as they are exchanged by publishers, advertisers, and users. Publishers are able to be tipped in BAT from Brave browser users that appreciate the content they create and want to share that value with them, and publishers also receive revenue from the advertisers that utilize BAT platform.

Over time, I’d expect the BAT platform and Brave browser to gain traction as they reinforce both user and publisher trust by sticking to the values and expectations they set forth from the start. If you want to browse with no ads on Brave, you can at any time, but you will not earn BAT, so it finally pays to browse and see ads. You can enable ads are all sites or just specific sites as well, targeting the value you want to receive and share with the publishers and sites you prefer.
